About the artist

Isabel works in several media, including acrylic and oil on canvas and gesso panels, mixed media on paper, and ink on aluminium panels.

Her painting process is intuitive and organic, often multi-layered and inspired by the natural environment – mountains, lochs, seas, and the sensations of sound and colour. Her work draws on recollections of places and spaces previously encountered and experienced.

“Like memories of songs and poems, spaces and places remain within us and through the process of painting, they are recalled, re-emerging as new spaces, imaginary spaces and sometimes places of hopes and dreams.”

Her aluminium panel works are rooted in memories of Japan and Japanese gardens – travelling with a Japanese friend, observing the movement of water, and noticing the shapes of trees and shrubs set against mountainous, watery landscapes. Each framed piece appears to float in its own space, contained, yet free.
